Welcome to the Breese Inn, a charming Bed and Breakfast steeped in heritage.

The rich history of this beautiful Queen Anne Victorian began in 1906 when St. Louis architect H.J. Burgdorf designed the home for A.C. Koch, then-owner of the Breese Mill & Grain Company. Conveniently situated, it is only eight miles from Carlyle Lake in Illinois and about 40 miles from St. Louis, Missouri.

Retreat to one of the four guest bedrooms featuring luxurious bedding, a Keurig coffee maker, flat screen TV, free Wi-FI and a writing desk.  Each room has its own private bathroom, some with jacuzzi tubs.  A grand suite spans the third floor and includes its own private sitting area.

In the evening, unwind in your spacious bedroom, recline in the front porch swing, or enjoy a cozy fireside conversation in the parlor.  In the morning, a full, hot country breakfast* awaits you under the glow of the dining room ’s crystal chandelier.

Walking distance to the North Side Park, downtown, and the KC and Legion Halls. Three-minute drive to St. Joseph Hospital, Villas, Cedarhurst and Arrow Group/Shelter Logic.

Owners John and Christine Foppe have created an extraordinary space with you in mind.  Through John's work as an international speaker and author, the couple have traveled the world.  Moreover, Christine has worked in the hospitality field throughout her career for great hotel chains like Marriott and Hilton.  John and Christine know what makes a good night’s sleep and fond memories.

Born without arms, John Foppe shares a special story about this house in his inspirational book, What's Your Excuse?  John’s parents planned to buy the local landmark in the early 1970’s for their growing family but backed out because they were afraid John couldn't walk the steps because of a birth defect in this hips.  Twenty-five years later, John bought the house himself!

Today, John and Christine walk the same steps with purpose.  The Foppe family has lived in the Breese area for over 180 years.  Their surname is seen on business signs throughout the city.  Whether you need a getaway or just a place to stay, John and Christine are proud of their historic home and town and want to share it with you.
