  • Carlyle Lake

    The largest man-made lake in Illinois.

    Carlyle Lake known to sailors, it is one of the best and most challenging for sailboats. There is also boating, biking, fishing, hunting, bird watching, sand beaches, golfing make the area a true outdoor lover's playground.

  • Excel Bottling Co.

    Home of Ski soda.  

    Excel remains one of the few independent family bottlers in the nation, producing flavored soda through a variety of products using cane sugar, returnable bottles through vintage bottling equipment.  Their most popular soft drink, Ski, a citrus soda with real lemon and orange juices.  In 2012, Excel began brewing West Coast and traditional German style lagers.  You’ll find the complete lineup of each soda and beer when visit.

  • Wally's Drive-In

    Home of the infamous Wally burger.

    Founded by Wally Knue in 1951, Wally’s is widely known for the Wally Burger, a single smashed patty with pickles. The famous burgers, made with a ratio of 81/19 ground beef, are cooked about 50 to 60 at a time on a standard flat-top grill with metal spatulas; they sizzle for about five minutes to get those crispy edges.

    Wally’s also serves fried fish sandwiches – blue gill and cod – beer-battered onion rings, toasted ravioli and crinkle-cut fries (plus curly and waffle fries) in addition to shakes, malts, ice cream cones and sundaes. If you had a few too many last night, ask for the Clinton County Hangover: a double cheeseburger, fries and a local Ski soda. 

  • Eversgerd’s History in Stone Museum and Fort

    Wheelbarrowing piles of dirt, and hand-picking (as well as hand-placing!) each stone, Bobby Evergerd has worked tirelessly for thirty years to create a replica Civil War-era fort. Layers upon layer of limestone make it seem impossible that one man has created such a marvel.

    Visitors can also explore the reconstructed cabins, which were renovated and furnished with Bobby’s personal collection of both European and Native American antiques and weapons. 

    Happy to give tours and information alike, Bobby sees visitors anytime he’s around-which is often as this is not only his passion but also his own home! Bobby is ready to impart his expansive knowledge on anyone that finds themselves walking through this historic spectacle.

  • Historic City of Lebanon

    Hankering for high-end comfort food in a town where everyone wants to know your name? Popeye’s Chop House in St. Rose, Illinois, is a favorite of locals and visitors alike.
